I couldnt finish this. It started to drag a little, but i was determined to finish it. Then Jacks english family turned up.Being both from England AND Essex I can assure you we do NOT speak like Londoners from a bygone era. And what's with the "luv"? I dont believe anyone I know has ever said "cor" or "chin wag" in serious conversation, and what's with "shufti?" Not a word I ever knew even existed!!If you're going to include British characters, go to england first!! (or at least watch a little british tv...)Seemed like an interesting story, but I do think Annabelle was beginning to annoy me. I may come back to it, I'd like to know what happens...

If you're unfamiliar with Heather Killough-Walden, you may be missing some of the best reading available on Kindle. I stumbled across her paranormal romance The Third Kiss: Dorian's Dream and was so blown away by her style and imagination, that I quickly downloaded all her other available titles. And believe me when I say, it didn't break the bank, because The Third Kiss: Dorian's Dream was all of $1 and Hell Bent a whopping $1.99.Seriously great reading combined with a stunningly low price...can I just say WOO HOO!In Hell Bent, we meet Annabelle Drake. She works for a graphics design company and her boss, Max Anderson, is both a friend...and maybe more. He's finally asked her to dinner on a night when his teenage son wouldn't be home. As Annabelle heads to lunch with her friend Cassie, feeling a little glowy from the invitation, the glow turn to confusion and then fear when an odd text message from Max urges her back to the office - the locked and completely dark office. The shock from the grimmest of discoveries rocks Annabelle's world and she desperately reaches out to her best friend, Jack Thane, a man she's known for ten years. Jack's not a normal friend. He's not a normal anything, really. He's also intensely in love with Annabelle and has been from the moment he laid eyes on her on her birthday almost ten years ago. He'd do anything for her - has done...everything for her. And as an assassin, he's well aware of everything he needs to keep doing. When the call from his Bella comes in on the phone that he keeps strictly for her to contact him, he knows something's wrong - she's never called it before. He drops everything and rushes to her side, quickly sweeping Annabelle away from the scene of a horrific crime, but he only starts to get the gist of just how bad things are when Annabelle tells him in no uncertain terms that Max didn't kill himself as the scene suggests. He was murdered.Soon Jack is racing to keep the woman he loves safe from assassins just as deadly as he is while he shelters a growing number of people on the kill list with her. Annabelle's friend Cassie, Max's son Dylan, Jack's ex-wife and daughter...soon it's all Jack can do to keep everyone safe and keep Annabelle from the clutches of a very determined billionaire who is exceedingly intent on staying a billionaire - no matter how many people he needs to kill to keep his secrets safe.Hell Bent is a roller coaster thrill ride and Annabelle and Jack are a fantastic pair of characters. Their relationship is complicated, complex, and difficult for both of them at times, but it's also immutable and intensely strong. Annabelle trusts Jack like no other, even knowing what he does for a living, but when Jack's secrets start to unravel as they're forced to evade danger again and again, so does their close friendship and soon their relationship is fraught with just as many perils as the situation they're in.Killough-Walden has plotted this book perfectly, balancing the external danger and the plot of a brutal cover up with delicate emotional angst in a way that many authors can't even begin to comprehend, let along pull off. The characters struggle desperately to not get dead, racing across the country and then across the pond in a valiant effort while buildings are being blown up and bullets are flying and friendships are being tested. It's an exciting, dangerous thrill ride and an odd but utterly unique romance filled with genuine characters with human foils and foibles...and a bit of murder and mayhem.Annabelle is a gem of a character, quirky, bright, dedicated, with a spine of steel and a core of determination that makes her a formidable heroine. Jack is fantastic as the lead male. A cold blooded killer by trade, it's clear his heart belongs to Annabelle, and the dichotomy, while perplexing, is also uniquely appealing and ultimately sympathetic. He's a bad guy...just not totally a bad guy...and some of his frets about keeping his Bella from hating him are actually cute and provide some humor to the situation. The plot is fast-moving, the book long, and there's plenty of room given to develop the story and characters and do it well. Maybe just a wee bit too much room in one or two places that could have benefited from a bit of tightening and trimming. There were one or two times that I thought the constant attacks on Annabelle, Jack, and company felt a little like overkill, but they were passing thoughts, not true complaints, and the scope of the story never stopped developing alongside the action. There was only one part at just over halfway that I felt the action slowed a little and the story dragged a bit, but it was over before I got annoyed and another totally unexpected layer to the plot was added. From that point on, the book was right back at breakneck pace.I loved it. I absolutely loved it. It was definitely one of the best action adventure books I've ever read, and I became so fond of the characters that I know they will stick with me. I would love a sequel or a series with Annabelle and Jack...even Sam, Cassie, or Dylan, and especially Adam - they're all unique enough and the relationships fresh and complex enough to support much more from any or all of them. Even if there's never a sequel, the impact that the story has guarantees that I'll be reading it again and again. Hell Bent is a story that quite literally has everything: rip-roaring action, bullets and bombs and beatings, a race against time, and danger, mystery, and suspense - and romance! It's fantastic!!~*~*~*~Reviewed for One Good Book Deserves Another.

This one is a really hard one to rate. I will say it now holds the record for the book that kept me up the latest ( three thirty in the morning for heaven's sake! I just couldn't put it down.) The suspense and mystery parts of the story were SO GOOD but the romance and overall moral of the story was SO frustrating! There were really only two problems (ok, the writing wasn't top notch in places but that can be over looked), the first is concerning the romance between Jack and Bella. Jack is a hired assassin who has been in love with Bella for 10 years, she is in love with him also but they have kept their relationship on the best friend level because of his profession. When things blow apart and they find themselves on the run and fighting for their (and their loved ones) lives, their relationship takes a major turn bringing all the feelings to the forefront. Jack has been holding out in a big way, however, and Bella starts to uncover all the lies and deceit he has been employing against her (in order to "protect" her). At least 5 or 6 times the topic is brought up with both the characters stating they will need to discuss and work these problems out between them. Jack must explain his reasons to Bella before she can ever trust him again. With all the action, however, these HUGE issues never get resolved, they have been the elephant in the room through half the stinking book and it NEVER HAPPENS! They just smile and walk off into the sunset together. AGH!!!!The other problem is probably personal. The killer for hire concept with the killer, who murders whoever he's hired to just for the big money, and with no remorse whatsoever, being the "hero"- along with the contradictory plot where he is saving the son who's family have been assassinated by he and his associates just doesn't sit well. If there had been any redemption or remorse or change in attitude it would have worked for me. As it was, all good and bad just became a very dark gray. All were bad, the ones you root for are getting paid to kill indiscriminately, the ones you want to lose are also getting paid to kill indiscriminately, they're just trying to kill the ones we're rooting for. In the end, even the heroine goes to the dark side. Ick

This book had great potential. I was hooked the whole first half. But while it could have had this GREAT love story, it fell terribly flat. You have 2 people who have been secretly in love for 10 years, there is all this romantic and sexual tension. The first time they give in to their desire goes like this......he put his mouth to hers......they woke up the next day. Now, there is a pretty thick line between writting smug and avoiding sex like the plague. I wasn't looking for smug (honestly) But by bypassing any and ALL interactions, you miss all revelations, all sweet talk, intimate confessions......EVERYTHING. Frankly, it was kind of weird. Like it was written by a shy school girl (with no problem with violence or language) or my grandmother!Again...great great potential. I loved the main characters and the whole premise behind the book. I was sadly disappointed.

Lately I have been loving this author because her books are fun, romantic, exciting and come at a very good price. Though this book had all of those things at times, at other times it was slow moving, confusing and incredibly frustrating. I really enjoyed the relationship between Jack and Annabelle but by the end of the book I found myself not even caring if they got together. I had to force myself to finish this book because it didnt really matter to me how things turned out.

EXCELLENT READ. If an author can make you fall for an assassin that's good writing. and fall for Jack you will I guarantee it.

I loved the writing and the way the author drew me in but there were some issues regarding the story that bothered me. I normally prefer my heroines a little stronger - yes we are told how courageous and strong Annabelle is but in her actions there is little evidence of it. Within the whole group she is the weakest - (view spoiler)[ she is weaker than the 17 year old who has just lost his father. The only "strong" action given on her part is when she pulls the trigger and kills three men. Other than that she is the one who needs to be coddled and protected.(hide spoiler)] Moreover, I have issue with the consistency of the main male character. He is a hit man. Fine. But he is supposed to be a honourable one - killing no women, children or anyone who does not deserve it. But from the backstory we are given distinct evidence that he either has not always been that way or is not taking those restrictions quite as seriously - or at least does not question orders. My issue is that I feel the author wants to have her cake and eat it - he is supposed to be honourable to the extreme but the story also is supposed to have the added conflict. The problem is - that does not work and either leaves him a man who would rather not question uncomfortable information or a liar. Still it is a good, and engaging read - worth spending a few hours on.

This is a long detail packed novel and has a way of keeping you turning each page. I enjoyed this story and found myself wondering how the first section of the book was going to finally tie in towards the end.The author did a great job of giving you details and keeping the plot moving with action packed moments. There was a whole lot going on in this novel and some very intricate characters that she did a great job keeping straight. The only thing that kept this book from being a 5 star in my opinion was the softness of the romance and the few things that didn’t seem to get answered at the end. Bella and Jack are a great couple, and I wanted to feel and see more of the romance between them. They dealt with real life issues, but near the end, you had to assume that things were settled because no explanation was really ever given.I loved the intricacy of the motorcycles and the details of them riding. It was obvious that there was a love for the feel of the wind and the vibration between the legs on that. All in all, I really enjoyed it and hope there is more to come along the line of this story.

This story is about Jack, a hired gun, and his best friend (but love of his life unbeknownst to her) Annabelle. Bella is thrown into Jack's world in a shocking way when her boss is murdered in the office. The subsequent action was non-stop from there.I like Bella's character even when she was being a teensy bit unreasonable. Her anger at Jack for his lies by omission were understandable, but he is a trained assassin so I could see that he wouldn't tell her everything in order to keep her safe. Jack seemed like a real character...a man who fell in the Business, but who took no relish in his job. An assassin with morals who would turn down assignments depending on who the mark was.The descriptions were fantastic and I loved all of the bike imagery. The story was well told with just enough detail, but not so much that I was bored. The tension between Bella and Jack was ever present, and they finally came to an understanding before it got old.The only downside was that I felt that the ending left me hanging a little with Adam Black. Maybe there will be another in the series....

Wow; this book is brilliant, fast paced, has action and great suspense with just the right dose of mystery, every time I 'thought' I sussed out who the bad boys were I was proven wrong, this book sucked me in like a hoover sucks in dust.... the twists and turns in the plot kept me on the edge of my seat.... what I would add is that the accent you gave Clara was a bit difficult to understand and get my tongue around at times and I'm English :-)One last comment; I loved Adam - now there's a book to write :-) xxMerged review:Wow; this book is brilliant, fast paced, has action and great suspense with just the right dose of mystery, every time I 'thought' I sussed out who the bad boys were I was proven wrong, this book sucked me in like a hoover sucks in dust.... the twists and turns in the plot kept me on the edge of my seat.... what I would add is that the accent you gave Clara was a bit difficult to understand and get my tongue around at times and I'm English :-)One last comment; I loved Adam - now there's a book to write :-) xx

This is the 7th book I've read in a row by this author. I was waiting for a character to admit to some sort of supernatural power, but it never happened. This one is about normal people, as normal as a profesional killer can be of course. More action than romance is what deemed this story 'non-5 star' material for me. The love story was weak. It was over 1,000 pages and full of a lot of details in respect to the central theme, but not enough development of the relationship of the two main characters. Bella's reactions to certain things made me wrinkle my eyebrows a bit. Not enough turmoil to too much turmoil. I'm not sure what category this book is under since I am reading all books written by this author but, I wouldn't classify this as a romance; though there is a romantic relationship in it. I would classify it as more of an action/mystery novel. A bit manly. I think men would enjoy reading this book.

I bought this book because I read "The Third Kiss:Dorian's Dream" by Heather and so enjoyed it. This book is different but the same. The first had Vampires, this one has assassins. They both have older guys who waited a long time to find the woman of their dreams, but the relationship faces some real challenges. Both heroes have complicated brothers."Hell Bent" is very fast paced, you may need coffee to keep up. There are shootings and violence but it's not grisly. Lots of sexual tension but no "on screen" sex. Darn. Great characters, interesting plot twists, surprises, and really great formatting for an e-book. I really can't think of anything I would change about it. The Amazon Kindle version was $1.99 so grab it before some big publishing house discovers her and jacks the price up.

I thought this book had a very good plot, I loved the thiller and mystery aspects that were throughout the story, it kept me guessing. However, I was expecting more out of the two main characters Jack and Annabelle. I very much enjoyed Jack and Bella's interaction, as well as the mysterious vibe that I recieved from them both. Nevertheless, I wasn't completely satisfied with the culmination of their relationship, I wanted to be witness to the converstion where all their issues were raised and sorted out. It seemed like they were just shoved under the rug, all was forgiven and they walked off to their life together with nothing solved. I just wanted that little bit extra that said they worked it out properly as partners.

SO I really enjoyed this book. The suspence and mystery parts were really good, the scenes were also very vivid and exciting. the plot is ... WELL.. complicated but long story short a woman (Bella) and her BFF Jack (who is in love with her, but she hasnt got a clue) is a hit man. yada, yada, yada someone is murderd and now Bella and a few close friends are now on the run from other hit men, yada, yada, yada, Bella figures out she too loves Jack ,yada, yada, yada. Please dont take my "yada, yada, yada's" the wrong way. I really liked this book. I just dont want to have this whole review hidden due to spoilers. I would highly recomend this book to anyone who likes Suspence and hot hitmen as the hero <-- wait isnt that an oxymoron? hmmm a hitman hero? ahh anyway it works in this book.

Although morally I'm against killing people but it still makes for an interesting book. And the book mentioned that some mormon parents disowned their kids because of having a baby out of wedlock. Not all mormons are like that, those are the kinds of mormon's who give the religion a bad name. That church doesn't want parents to hate their kids for something like that, they are supposed to love them unconditionally. But I'm hoping that a sequel will come out surrounding the dark bad boy who must have a soft side. Those are the books that I love the most.

i read this book as a result of a recommendation on amazon, and was really taken with it. a very unlikely premise, with the hero being a hit man in love with the heroine secretly for 10 years! it is not really a romance, though, but a tense thriller and bad guys dying left, right and center. the heroine gets to a point that she doesn't know who to trust, but resolves this, and starts a new life in a very unexpected way. a real bonus was that this book was only a dollar--lots of bang for my buck!only one quibble with this--the author's name is heather killough-walden, NOT tapply!

This is my favorite book. Is it the best book I've ever read? No. But that doesn't matter. It is my favorite. I love it. My absolute favorite part of this book is Adam Night. He's not one of the main characters, but he steals the show. It's a romance where the main character is an assassin. If that doesn't walk the line of what a "good guy" is allowed to do in books, I don't know what does. Sounds like it can't be done, but our Heather does it and does it well.Run, don't walk. This book ruled.

Hell Bent is a great thriller. Heather Killough-Walden had me guessing up until the very end. This book was nonstop action and suspense. I loved the characters and the interaction between them. This is the kind of book that makes you think you know what is going to happen next only to find out that you were completely wrong. I lost several hours of sleep while reading this book, but it was totally worth it.

I liked this book. It took a few pages into this story for me to get hooked then the pace picks up and takes you on a run. This is a good suspense thriller book. If you haven't read Heather Killough-Walden before you are missing out on some great reads. I am hoping for another book featuring Annebelle, Jack & Adam, I would like to delve more into the lives of her characters and the aftermath of Annebelle's, Jack's and Adam's actions.

A pretty interesting story and relatively enjoyable read, but the author gets very wordy in explicable places and does NOT tie up loose ends nicely. If you want an action/romance where you can fill in the blanks as you like, you might enjoy this book. If you expect the author to neatly package everything up by the end of the book, you will be sadly disappointed.

Shades of old school Tom Clancy with a romantic bentI always think its interesting when the traditional villain gets to be the hero...or, at least, gets to have the benefit of the doubt. This is old enough that i doubt there will be a follow up, but it would be fun to interact with more of tje characters.

I am so a fan of Heather Killough Walden... I have been a fan since the first books I read "The Big Bad Wolf" Series. Hell Bent was a little slow in the beginning while putting the story together... however, once the plot story is set is it a wonderful read. Another of my favorites.I read the book pretty quickly as I could not put it down, but then I forgot to to write the review.

really enjoyed but the story did drag on in places. I found that I was invested in the characters and wanted to see how their stories played out. So I was able to make it thought the long parts. Hope there is another book in the series, there were some characters that would make a great book.

Enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading found it hard to put it down. All the secrets you know are there and you keep reading hoping to discover one soon. Some sad moments and some lol moments. I don't understand why Annabelle's secret had to be a secret in the first place.

I know some people liked this book. I just can't figure out why. It was definitely a step up from The Third Kiss but still lacking. I think there were just too many plots going on. I was on my way to adoring Jack and then he kinda fell flat.
